What IS realistic is finding a chalet that is ski in/out on the mountain, a ten minute walk to the lifts or a few minutes’ drive/bus ride to the Village. These are still attractive locations as they provide a peaceful night’s rest and magical, natural surroundings.
Whistler Chalet Rental Neighbourhoods Include:
- Whistler Creekside – This area includes a mini-village with a variety of shops, restaurants and conveniences. Chalet and townhome rentals can be found near the base/gondola access or on the mountain.
- Whistler Upper Village – Located on the Blackcomb Mountain side of the resort, this area is home to an abundant array of ski in/out chalets and townhome rentals. Blackcomb Mountain base features many shops and restaurants an some accommodation but most chalets are located on the mountain.
- Whistler Village North – This area is an extension of the main pedestrian village. Some larger vacation rentals will be found along the walkway but most are just across the street from the pedestrianized area. Walk to the lifts at Whistler mountain base in approx. 10 minutes from most chalets/homes or take the free shuttle.
- Alpine Meadows – This is primarily a residential neighbourhood approx. 10 minutes from Whistler Village. It features a top-notch Sports Centre with indoor arena and pool as well as a convenience store and coffee shop.
- Nicklaus North – This area is built around a world-class golf course and lake where seaplanes land. It’s only a 3 – 5 minute drive or bus ride to the Village and is a quiet and peaceful place to stay.
- Blueberry Hill, White Gold, Brio, Nesters, Bayshores, Whistler Cay Heights, Alta Vista and Emerald Estates are also residential neighbourhoods in Whistler that may feature some chalet or townhome rentals. They range from 2 – 10 minutes’ drive to the Village.
How to Find & Book a Whistler Chalet the Safe Way
You can rent a Whistler chalet from a rental management company or Owner-direct. Either way, you should find quality accommodation, but renting from an Owner cuts out extra fees and provides top value.
When searching for a Whistler chalet to rent by Owner, start by google searching terms such as “Whistler chalet” or “Whistler vacation rental.” Sift through the results to find sites with a good selection of rentals that also offer a safe booking or fraud-protection guarantee.
When you’ve found the right Whistler chalet, follow these steps when reserving to protect yourself:
- Save a copy of the property advertisement or listing to your hard drive so you have a record of what was promised to you at the time you made the reservation. Coming back to the listing at a later date may mean the content has been updated and it will be difficult to file any claims of false advertising.
- Get a rental agreement or copy of the booking policies in writing. An electronic or email version will suffice.
- Pay by credit card and make sure you get confirmation of every payment you make. Sending cash, a cheque or a money transfer to the Owner means you have no recourse should things go wrong.
- Get complete check-in and emergency contact information from the Owner once the reservation is fully paid. Print and pack this information in your carry-on bag. You will need this for checking in to the property as most owner-direct rentals do not include front desk service
